An inside look into Reading Partners AmeriCorps Orientation

It's an exciting time as we kick off the school year and introduce our 2016-17 AmeriCorps cohort to all-things Reading Partners Los Angeles. This year, our AmeriCorps team consists of new and senior members, having grown with 13 site coordinators, two site coordinators and two volunteer coordinators. Over the last two weeks, they've received intensive training, learning what to expect from their year of service and understanding their important roles in solving the literacy crisis.

Trainings included engaging team building activities along with loads of great information on how to become Reading Partners ambassadors.  The new cohort also learned how to engage community members and how to operate reading centers while working with students and school faculty. During this time, they had the perfect chance to get to know each other and begin building strong bonds that will last beyond their year of service.

We are so thrilled to welcome our new AmeriCorps cohort to our team and look forward to seeing the great success they can achieve!

Partnership Highlight: El Camino College

Reading Partners Los Angeles couldn't be more thankful for our longstanding partnership with El Camino College and their support of our Lawndale schools. Year after year, El Camino students join our program as reading partners to support the elementary school students in their community as we work together to propel literacy success. Last year alone, El Camino students provided 1,022 tutoring sessions to our 150 students at F.D. Roosevelt and William Green Elementary, and acted as mentors to every student they interacted with. We couldn't more thankful for their support, and we look forward to seeing them again this year!
